Local Fireworks Stores Busy
Ft. Mill, S.C. , 07.04.2009
WBT NEWS
At Davy Jones Fireworks in Ft. Mill, customers were in the store before 8 o'clock this morning looking for all kinds of sparklers and fireworks. "We're really busy," the manager told WBT News.
One of her customers, Jimmy McCoy of Charlotte, said he was spending a hundred dollars on fireworks and a cook-out instead of taking a trip. "Saves money, and it'll be some fun," he said.
Fireworks are not legal in North Carolina. McCoy laughed that off. "Well, they gotta catch me," he said.
Nationally, fireworks shops report big business this year as cash-strapped consumers look for cheap thrills.
The manager at Davy Jones Fireworks said that a lot of her customers said they planned to stay home to save money and that buying fireworks would be the easiest and cheapest way to have fun for the fourth.
