Charlotte Area Transit CEO may be leaving

The CEO of the Charlotte Area Transportation System may be leaving for a similar position in Texas. City of Charlotte spokeswoman Kim McMillan tells WBT Keith Parker is considering a job offer from another city, but he has not officially said if he is leaving CATS. McMillan says negotiations with Parker are still ongoing and that it would be premature to say Parker has finalized a deal to change jobs.
Mecklenburg County Commission Chairwoman Jennifer Roberts, though, indicated on WBT that it was a done deal. "We're losing Keith Parker to another city," Roberts told Charlotte's Morning News Tuesday.
McMillan said an announcement could come by the end of the week.
Parker has been at CATS for two years and helped guide the city to its first light rail line in 2007 amid some controversy from mass transit opponents who failed in their attempt to kill funding for the new train service. Among other things, transit opponents, including former Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett, argued that few people would ever ride the South Blvd. line, but the light rail line has far exceeded expectations for ridership and has been nationally acclaimed since its opening in 2007. Parkr has been involved in plans to expand Charlotte commuter train service, although the recession has slowed those efforts.
