Mecklenburg county is keeping an eye on eight people who might have swine flu.
Lab tests, however, have cleared five others who were suspected of having the disease.
Mecklenburg County Health Director, Dr. Stephen Keener, says another person got sick last night, bringing the total to eight patients who could have the illness.
The county is waiting for lab tests to either confirm or rule-out swine flu.
When a person shows up at an emergency room with possible swine flu, Keener says they are served with legal papers and placed in isolation. The papers explain that the health department has the authority to order isolation to prevent disease from spreading.
"If they're sick enough to be in the hospital, they are in isolation at the hospital. If they aren't sick enough to be hospitalized, they are in isolation at home.
"We haven't had any trouble with people not remaining in isolation," Keener said.
Test results for some of those in isolation might be available late Saturday.
