.RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Democratic Rep. David Price has defeated Republican B.J. Lawson to hold onto his seat in North Carolina's 4th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race for Price based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for the AP by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.

Price has spent 20 years representing the district, which includes Chapel Hill and Durham.

A former Duke University professor and Morehead Scholar, Price has been a strong critic of the Bush Administration's foreign policy. He also helped pass a bill giving tax breaks on student loans.

Lawson moved to North Carolina in 1992 to attend college and medical school at Duke. After medical school, he stared a technology company.
