Interim Durham D.A. to hold news conference Thursday
DURHAM, N.C., 06.21.2007
AP
A familiar face is taking over the Durham County district attorney's office after the Duke lacrosse rape case.
Governor Mike Easley has asked Jim Hardin to serve as interim district attorney while he searches for a longer-term replacement for Mike Nifong. Nifong was disbarred Saturday for his handling of the lacrosse case, and a judge has suspended Nifong from office.
Hardin was the district attorney before Nifong, leaving the office to become a judge in 2005. He is scheduled to hold a news conference this afternoon to discuss his temporary appointment.
Easley hopes to appoint someone to serve as district attorney until the 2008 elections.
