A Farmville man charged with breaking into three churches and setting fire to two of them was given a court-appointed lawyer Tuesday.
A secured bond of $500,000 also was set Tuesday during a first court appearance for Seth Parker Price, 28, said Mary Jo McGowan, deputy court clerk for Pitt County.
Price was arrested last week after he was spotted running away from a residence where an alarm sounded at 3 a.m. and a nearby house was burning. Along with the church fire charges, Price has been charged with burglary and arson at a residence.
One of the Jan. 13 fires destroyed Memorial Baptist Church, where damage was estimated at $1 million. A fire at Unity Free Will Baptist Church was confined to one room.
Investigators said they believe Price acted alone in the church fires and no other arrests are expected.
June 13 is the next scheduled court date for Price, who remains in the Pitt County Jail, McGowan said.
