I love to learn about leadership. It's one of my life's passions. Therefore, I was intrigued the other day when I heard a leadership guru say he wanted to give all other leaders listening to him what he considered the key leadership truth he learned through the years.
Do you want to know what it is? He simply said this: "A leader can never be effective until he learns to lead the most important person in the world: himself!
How true! How can we expect to lead others if we can't lead ourselves! How can we expect people to follow us if we can't oversee and control our own life's urges, passions and lusts? Doing so, allows us to lead from within, to lead from our own hearts.
It's a simple leadership truth that needs to be stated over and over again. We can't expect people to follow us as leaders if we can't even lead ourselves. It's a key for developing the leader in me!
