Podcast FAQ's

What is a Podcast?

Traditional broadcasting, or even online streaming requires that you listen in real time when the show is on the air. With podcasting, you can time-shift the show to fit your schedule... similar to the way a DVR or Tivo works for television. In order to listen to a podcast, you need the free iTunes software from Apple (works on both Windows and Macs) OR an RSS reader that supports enclosures . An RSS Reader allows you to subscribe to a feed or podcast and automatically download the latest information or audio to your computer. In the case of a podcast, you can also transfer the audio to your portable MP3 player (like an iPod) and take it with you.

You can learn more about podcasting at the following site:

How do I do it?

We've decided to recommend iTunes because it works on both Windows and Apple Macintosh computers and the latest version has built-in podcasting abilities.

  1. For Windows XP/2000 and Mac OS X users, download and install the free iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes. If you have it already. make sure it's version 4.9 or greater.
  2. In the above list, under the show name you want, click the iTunes button to launch iTunes and access the podcast. You can then subscribe to the podcast (which will automatically download new shows when available) or just get an individual show.
  3. Listen to the shows on your computer in iTunes, or connect your iPod and get them to go!

-- OR --

  1. For older versions of Windows, or if you don't want to install separate software and just want to listen, use the "Podcast Player" button in the list above.

Why don't I see today's show?

It takes a little while for us to get the podcast ready. You should see it in the feed about an hour after the show ends.

Why does iTunes sometimes ask to set up an account, and why do they want my credit card?

iTunes will sometimes offer to set up an account for you, and in order to do so, it requires a credit card number. This is for purchases from Apple's iTunes Music Store only, and if you don't set up an account, you can still use the FREE podcast feature.

I'm a geek and I want to do it my way!
