It’s been over a month since President Obama declared government – not hard-working Americans – was responsible for building our nation’s small businesses:

President Obama: “If You’ve Got A Business, You Didn’t Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen.” OBAMA: “Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks, Roanoke, VA, 7/13/12)

Over the last month, small-business owners in North Carolina have spoken out against President Obama’s remarks:

Harold Hoffmeier, Owner of All About Garage Doors in Zebulon, NC: “The Obama Administration Has Not Helped Our Business In Any Shape Or Form.” “Other business owners made their displeasure with the “you didn’t build tht” comment well known. ‘When we started our business, we did not hang a sign up and wait for the business to come to us,” said Harold Hoffmeier,’ founder of All About Garage Doors.  ‘The Obama administration has not helped our business in any shape or form.’” (“NC Business Owners Upset Over Obama Comment ‘You Didn’t Build That’,” Raleigh Telegram, 7/20/2012)

Juan Ponce, Owner of JFP Ink, Inc. in Raleigh, NC: “Felt Like A Slap In The Face.” “Ponce said Obama’s comments “felt like a slap in the face” and that he believes the quote is worse in its full context because it “ignores the businessmen who went out there and took a risk.” (“Campaigns Battle Over Small Business,” News & Observer, 7/26/2012)

But it’s not just the President’s rhetoric – he’s supported policies that are hostile to job creators, which will impede hiring, destroy jobs, and raise taxes on over 2 million business owners. In fact, Reuters noted yesterday that two thirds of small businesses do not expect to add jobs or will be cutting them in 2013.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have a bold plan that will get businesses hiring again, while creating 12 million new jobs and more take-home pay for middle-class families. They stand ready to make the difficult decisions and implement serious policies necessary to turn things around for the next generation. As Congressman Ryan said yesterday during an interview on “Special Report with Bret Baier”:

Congressman Ryan: “[T]hat’s the problem I have with President Obama and a lot of politicians like him in Washington. They are so worried about their election that they’re compromising the country and the next generation. And so I decided back then I’m going to do what I think is right. I’m going to move this debate so we can get this country fixed, so we don't have the kind of European result that we're clearly heading toward. And what I’m really pleased to see is we’re finally having that adult conversation we need to have in this country if we want to fix this country's problems and get us back to prosperity and get people back to work.”

While Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan promote their policies that will give America’s next generation a brighter future, President Obama has failed to deliver the hope and change he promised America’s youth today.

Young Americans face a difficult job market, while struggling with higher college tuition costs. Young Americans don’t need more empty rhetoric – they need a president that will turn around this economy.

And in case you missed it, the national debt clock launched yesterday at the convention keeps ticking, illustrating the unsustainable debt accumulated by the policies of this administration.

Americans know that we can do better. Click HERE to watch the video “Switchers” that will be shown tonight during the convention featuring numerous lifelong Democrats who supported Barack Obama but are now backing Mitt Romney.
