CBS: Charlie Crist to speak at Democratic convention
“Republican-turned-independent former Florida governor Charlie Crist will speak at the Democratic National Convention next week, a Democratic official confirms to CBS News. "The Democratic convention will be about bringing people together to continue the progress we've made in rebuilding our economy from the middle out, not the top down," a Democratic official said in a statement. "Gov. Crist can personally speak to this, and contrast the president's vision with Mitt Romney's, which caters to the most extreme elements of the Republican Party and undermines the middle class."

The Hill: Former GOP Gov. Crist will speak at Democratic convention
“ Florida's former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist will speak at the Democratic National Convention, according to reports. Crist's addition to the speakers list comes one day after he endorsed President Obama and criticized the GOP in an op-ed for the Tampa Bay Times. "As Republicans gather in Tampa to nominate Mitt Romney, Americans can expect to hear tales of how President Obama has failed to work with their party or turn the economy around," he wrote. "The truth is that the party has failed to demonstrate the kind of leadership or seriousness voters deserve."
He called Obama the "right leader for our times." Crist could be one of several Republicans included at the Democratic convention, in an effort to prove Obama is willing to reach across the aisle. Crist, who was defeated by Marco Rubio (R) in Florida's 2009 Senate race, has been criticized by conservatives for getting too friendly with Democrats. He switched his party affiliation to Independent in 2009. The Democratic convention begins next Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. The scheduled time of Crist's speech has not yet been released.”
