Ballantyne residents will see a glimpse of the uptown traffic closings during the Democratic convention.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Friday streets near the Ballantyne Hotel would be closed the week of the convention.

Police spokesman Rob Tufano said "a dignitary" would visit that area during the convention.

Beginning Labor Day, Ballantyne Commons Parkway would be closed to westbound traffic from North Community House Road to Johnston Road. Eastbound traffic will be closed from Wednesday through noon Friday.

Ballantyne Corporate Place will be closed to eastbound traffic from Brixham Hill Drive to Ballantyne Commons Parkway.

All traffic restrictions will be lifted at noon Friday, the day after President Obama accepts renomination.

Police Chief Rodney Monroe told a west Charlotte forum this week details on where the president would stay would be released soon.

The Secret Service would not comment on the new traffic restrictions.
