For decades, WBT Hall of Fame, North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and “Charlotte’s Most Beloved,” John Hancock, has been the spearhead of an annual giving effort to bring holiday joy to thousands of kids each year. Referred to at the station simply as “The Bike Drive,” the event has resonated deeply with WBT listeners through the years, resulting in the collection of 20,000-plus bikes, as well as gifts, food, clothing and more to be given to tens of thousands of kids.

Celebrating its 30th year in 2023, Hancock’s Bikes for Kids, presented by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of North Carolina, returns on Friday, December 8, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the famed studios at 1 Julian Price Place, Charlotte, NC. The entire event will be broadcast live on News Talk 1110 & 99.3 WBT.

Once again partnering with WBTV and Frito Lay, and with volunteers from throughout the community, WBT will collect new bikes to benefit Kids First of the Carolinas, who will ensure that hundreds of kids receive a new bike for Christmas. This year, Woodie’s Auto Service has generously made their fourteen Charlotte-area locations available as “drop off stations,” making it even easier for bike donations to be made.

The WBT air staff, as well as WBTV’s Jamie Boll, will join John Hancock to say hello and thank donors for their generosity throughout evening.
