Panthers Safety Charles Godfrey Turns a Corner

Defensive back Charles Godfrey has become one of the elder statesman with the Carolina Panthers.  A 3rd round pick out of Iowa in 2008, Godfrey is now entering his 7th season with the team.  Hopefully it will last longer than his 6th season did, as an Achilles tendon injury in week-2 shutdown his season very early in mid-September.

That made Godfrey mostly a spectator for what went on to become a (12-4) season and a division championship. While he was out, the Panthers were busy reconstructing their defensive secondary including adding veteran safeties Roman Harper and Thomas DeCoud.

So, Godfrey has been moved over to a nickel cornerback role, taking the place of the departed Captain Munnerlyn.  I asked Godfrey about his new role and how his return from the injury has been going at training camp in the interview on this blog.

The Panthers play their preseason opener at home versus the Buffalo Bills on Friday, August 8th here on WBT.
