John Kasay came out of retirement to announce his retirement from the NFL yesterday. Previous clues included him not playing football in 2012 and taking a full-time job as Athletics Director at Charlotte Christian High School.
Kasay signed a one-day deal with the Panthers though to close the door with the team that meant so much to him. As he said it was a way of thanking 70,000 people without having to write all of those letters individually.
Kasay was surprisingly released by the Panthers in 2011 after 16 years with the team. He would play one more season with New Orleans, but Charlotte remained home and will continue to be. It was good to see him have a chance for some official closure with the team and he is a lock for the Ring of Honor after five years. A statue might be in order, but we will see in time.
