The NFL Draft is this week. And by this week, I mean it takes half of the week. Thursday night is the first round of the draft. Friday night is the second and third rounds, followed by rounds 4-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Thursday night, I will join Hancock at Dillworth Neighborhood Grille from 8-10 pm on WBT as we cover the opening round with the Panthers picking 14th overall. On Saturday, the Panthers will have their annual draft party in the parking lot in front of the stadium on Morehead Street. Mick Mixon and I will emcee the event from 12-5 pm with live music, Top Cats, and Luke Kuechly among the happenings.
It does not figure to be an exciting start to the draft in terms of skill position players. The top quarterbacks such as Geno Smith, Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib will not make anybody forget Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III. It's likely that a running back will not come off the board until Alabama's Eddie Lacy is picked, which could very well be late in the first round. Even the wide receiver position lacks a sure thing. So get ready for lots of Luke Joekel (pictured) and other offensive linemen and defensive linemen going early on.
