COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — It's just two months away from filing, and South Carolina has not passed a law to allow candidates for lieutenant governor and governor will run on the same ticket.

The Senate passed a bill last year establishing the rules called for in a 2012 constitutional amendment that voters approved. But the House version includes a proposal to raise pay for other statewide officials and judges.

A conference committee meeting scheduled for last week was canceled abruptly.

Republican Sen. Chip Campsen of Isle of Palms tells The Post and Courier of Charleston that it's absurd the House is holding the bill hostage for pay raises. Republican Rep. Murrell Smith of Sumter says if lawmakers are going to give the lieutenant governor a raise, they should review all officeholders' salaries.
